BABY NEWS!

Big news! On March 12, Brandon and I welcomed our son, Harrison Hammett Turner! We are both doing great, he is very healthy, and I am loving being a mommy. I'm so in love with my little man! (see pic posted below!)

I am also slowly getting back into playing shows, starting next week, with shows in Charleston & Spartanburg, SC.  I have really missed playing music and can't wait to get back! I will be fairly close to home over the next few months (Carolinas, Georgia & TN) but I'm planning 2 tours for later this year, one up the East Coast  for late Sept/early Oct. and one to the Midwest in November. I am updating my calendar all the time, so please keep an eye on it and come see me!

Arkansas Murder Ballad, New Single, Out Today!

Hi Everyone!

It's my birthday and I wanted to do something special by sharing a little new music with you. As you may know, I am expecting my first baby, due in the next couple of weeks, and while I'm taking a little time off for maternity, I wanted to leave you with a little sample of what I've been working on.

Today, I am releasing a new single, "Arkansas Murder Ballad", recorded a couple weeks back by Matthew Knights at County Line Studio in Chesnee, SC and produceed by Brandon Turner. You can stream it for free and download it for 99 cents on Bandcamp: http://angelaeasterling.bandcamp.com/track/arkansas-murder-ballad
You can also listen on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1ojGFSoM-U
And Reverbnation: http://www.reverbnation.com/angelaeasterling/song/16248897-arkansas-murder-ballad

I will be working on getting it up on a few other sites soon. Please feel free to share and repost!!
Even though my song was only released this morning, It already got a great write up by Dan Armonaitis: http://soundobservations.blogs.goupstate.com/11054/

"Unsurprisingly, given its title, “Arkansas Murder Ballad,” is a hauntingly melodic song filled with stark lyrics that might be the best Easterling has ever composed.

"It’s hard not to get goose bumps while listening to the chorus, in which she achingly cries, “Pay heed, that old north wind is howlin’ low/And she seems to say, ‘hey girl, where you gonna go?’”

"Thematically and sonically, Easterling’s new song is like a cross between such traditional 19th century murder ballads as “Omie Wise” and “Poor Ellen Smith” and more contemporary folk-rock material such as Neil Young’s “Down by the River.”

Hope you enjoy the song & have a great day!

Angela

Happy New Year 2013!

Lots of exciting things to come this year as we await the birth of our first child in March. I will be taking some time off from performing & touring, but stay tuned because I am working on some new songs and will be posting some new tunes online for you to check out. I hope to have a new album ready to record late this year.
Meanwhile...
It's the New Year, but the victims of  the Sandy Hook school shooting still need our help. You can help out by downloading this compilation CD, with 20 songs all chosen for reflection on this event. I'm honored to have my song "Field of Sorrow" included. I and every other artist involved in thsi project have donated our songs. 100% of money raised goes to the Danbury, CT Hospital, for providing 24 hr. care and counseling to the family members affected by this tragedy. So far, over $2000 has been raised from our music!! Please check it out and pass it on! http://songsforsandyhook.bandcamp.com/album/songs-for-sandy-hook-volume-1

Brandon and I had a couple of fun TV appearances late in 2012. If you missed them, you can still check them out online. We especially enjoyed getting to play on the popular ETV show, "Making It Grow".

My Last Tour for a little while - BIG NEWS!

Hi Everyone! I'm looking forward to heading up to Ohio, Michigan & West Virginia next week for a few shows. I'm really excited to get to tour to this area of the country for the first time. This will be my last big tour for a while as I have some major changes coming up in my life!
I found out over the summer that Brandon Turner & I are expecting our first child, a boy, due in early March. I am so excited and looking forward to being a mom. I plan to keep playing for as long as I can until the baby is born and to pick up playing again as soon as I can thereafter. But I haven't done this before, so I have no idea what it is going to be like. It will naturally mean that I have to take a little time off the road and play my shows closer to home for a while. But I hope that I can get back to touring soon, maybe by next summer. I will continue to play regional (SC, NC, TN, GA) shows, but may have to put that farther-away-stuff off for the next several months.
My pregnancy has been complication-free, although the first couple of months were difficult, as I was sick and nauseous and exhausted pretty much 24-7 for all of July and August and early September. The constant touring I had during those months was a trial, but I am proud to say that I played every show, no matter how sick I was. Since then, I have felt energized and great. The baby's health is good also and I am very thankful for this blessing.
Up until now, writing and playing music has been the number one priority in my life. I love music and I love playing shows. I love the towns I get to travel to and the great folks I get to meet along the way. I don't want to have to give that up and I don't plan to. It will be a changing and growing and shifting time as I learn how to put all the pieces in place. I hope all my friends and fans out there won't forget about me as I am taking a little time off to do this. I still want to create more music and have so much more to share with you. See you 'round the bend.

xo, Angela

It's Fall!

Hi Everyone! Fall is in the air! I am so happy as I had a long, busy summer. Fun highlights were trips to Texas for Wildflower! Festival, a great tour to California and many appearances up and down the East Coast, from Connecticut to Georgia and back. And back again! Unfortunately, I was sick a lot this summer so while I enjoyed all the shows, it was somewhat of a tough time as well. The good news is, I am feeling much better now and gearing up for a busy fall that includes my first tour stops in Ohio and Michigan! Check back on my calendar page as I am getting more dates added daily and hope to have all the tour dates posted soon. The Ohio/Michigan tour will be my last BIG tour for a while, as I will be taking some time off the road to work on some new music as well as other things. I will have big news to post in regards to that very shortly. Stay tuned and thanks for coming out to my shows this summer. Hope to see you soon! XO, Angela

This Valentine's Day...My Secret

Valentine's Day has always been a special day to me. Maybe kind of because my birthday is the day after Valentine's, I have felt a special affinity with a day to celebrate LOVE. I always thought it would be neat to release an album  for Valentine's Day. I know lots of artists do Holiday CD's at Christmastime, and that's great, but I thought it would be nice to do an album of Love songs to get folks in the mood for Valentine's.

Sometime around October of last year, I was looking at a 2012 calendar and noticed that February 14 would fall on a Tuesday. Since Tuesday is the standard release day for albums here in the U.S., I realized that this might be my only chance in several years to actually release an album ON Valentine's Day. Fortunately, I already had just the project in mind.

Back in 2009, my friend Marianne Bessy and I started collaborating on writing a handful of songs in French. Not only is Marianne a talented writer, she is also a native of France and an assistant professor of French at Furman University, here in Greenville, SC. She was the perfect person to embark on this project with me. I know many of you are probably wondering "WHY" I would want to record in French. The answer is: I love the French language; I think it is so beautiful. The words flow into one another with a musicality that begs to be sung. I wanted to make this album to celebrate the beauty of that. Singing in another language is such a pleasure. It’s like a different flavor.  Imagine if all you ever ate was spaghetti, wouldn’t you want some tacos or sushi or a steak sometime? To me, language is like that. I think that here in America, we sometimes deny ourselves the joy of experiencing other languages. For me, trying to communicate my ideas in French seemed to open up a whole other part of my brain. It made me think of different ways I could have expressed myself in English. I think and I hope it will make me a better writer overall, in the long run. And I also felt that the combination of Southern-Americana style music with the lovely French language would be an interesting and unexpected idea.

But it was already late in the year and we had to scramble to make my release date goal. With Marianne's help. I practiced the songs every day before heading into the studio, to try to get the pronunciation right. I had lots of aid from some great folks who worked very hard with me on this project to get it done on time, especially Brandon Turner and Matthew Knights Williams here in SC, David Henry in Nashville and Eva Crawford, who turned out a beautiful package design, practically overnight.

And we did it! I am so very proud of this project as it represents something I would have never thought I would be able to do. A whole album of original love songs, all in French, titled "Mon secret" (My Secret). And the "Secret" is that I really am a sentimental and romantic person, although I try to keep that part of myself hidden because I feel sheepish about it. Singing in French gives me an opportunity to share things about myself that I would probably be embarrassed to say in a language my parents could understand! ;) This is probably my most personal and intimate album, overall.

"Mon secret" is now available for pre-order on Amazon.com and will be up on CDBaby shortly. If you order now on Amazon, you will get the CD shipped in advance so you will receive it in time for Valentine's Day! I hope it will make a great Valentine for you or gift for your Valentine.

And so you won't be in the dark about the lyrics, I also have English translations of all the songs posted and available for free download on the homepage of my website

Angela
